Fundraising for Baby K!

Hi friends! It’s been a month since we announced our adoption! We have felt SO loved, supported & encouraged by so many of YOU since making our big announcement!

We have been incredibly busy this past month with fundraising, preparing to move & working on other aspects of our adoption. We’ve been promising a post that focused on the financial aspects of our adoption & we finally got around to writing it! I hope this post will help answer some questions you might have about the financial part of adoption-how much our adoption will cost, what the cost will cover, why we are fundraising, and how much we need to raise. We want to be upfront about this fundraising process for a couple of reasons. One is because we get asked these questions SO often! Also, our hope is to educate people about the adoption process and that includes the financial part of it! Another reason is because we want the people involved in our fundraising to know the details about what their giving is going towards!

How much will the adoption cost?
First let’s start with how much we are anticipating to spend on our adoption. We shared in a previous post that the average adoption is typically somewhere between $20,000 and $50,000. Our adoption will be around $45,000. We aren’t sure what the final expense will be yet, but as of now, we are expecting for it to be this amount.

What does that cost cover?
Pre-natal care for the birthmother (everything from housing, utilities, maternity clothes, toiletries, etc.)
Legal Fees
Social Services (transportation to and from doctor’s appointments, counseling, phone time, etc)
Case Administration
Birth Certificates
Baby’s Medical Expense
Birth Mother’s medical (if not covered by Medicaid)
Travel fees
Our Adoption Consultants service fee
Our Home Study fee
Cost of our profile book-design & printing

Why fundraise?
To be honest, we just don’t have the money! When we started our adoption journey, we were very intimidated by how much we were going to spend. We talked about the cost, thought about it and prayed about it, set a budget and felt a peace about moving forward with our adoption regardless of the high expense. We knew from the beginning that God was calling us to adoption and that he was going to provide the money for us to bring our sweet little baby home!

How much do you need to raise?
Our goal is to raise $28,000. Even typing that intimidates me because it’s so much money! BUT God is good, He is the ultimate provider & nothing is beyond His power! We are trusting that He will help us raise exactly what we need!

Our goal is to be creative with our fundraisers. We want to bring in funds in a way that blesses everyone involved in the process. We have SO many ideas & plans for fundraising & hope that we can provide ways for as many people to be involved as possible! It will be more difficult for us to fundraise from Canada so we will have to be extra creative! ;)

How you can pray for us this week:

We would love for you to specifically pray for us this Saturday morning. We will be setting up our Adoption Closet Sale in Denham Springs in front of Pretend Play Party from 9-11 a.m.! We are excited to reach a new group of people with our sale and story! It will be quite a bit of work to get everything out to Denham and set up so we would love your prayers that it would be worth it and that the “sidewalk sale” would be a huge success! You can also pray for us as we pack up to move! We have so much to do in about a week and have been spreading ourselves thin. Please pray for energy and for us to get everything done quickly and efficiently!
Pray that we would have wisdom and creativity in our fundraising efforts. Pray that we will stay encouraged on our fundraising journey and continue to trust in God’s provision.
Pray for the birthmother of our sweet baby. Pray that God would protect her and watch over her and that she would seek Him as she makes decisions. Pray that God would put people into her life that encourage and love her as she makes an adoption plan for her baby. Pray for our little one, who may or may not be alive and growing right this very minute…that God’s hand of protection, love and favor would be over his/her life from the very first moment of conception. Pray for the development of our precious little baby in the womb and that our little baby will be healthy and well cared for.
